Me and my expectations

Hi, everyone! My name is Martha and I am seventeen years old. This fall I entered the beginning of my 2nd school year as a student at Sandvika High School. To tell you a llittle about myself I can say that I live in Norway, just outside Oslo. In my spare time I enjoy working out, spending time with friends, music.. You know, the usual. I also play a lot of instruments and I like to sing. I have for many years held an interest and some sort of admiration for the English language and it's extensive powers. I have learned English since primary school. Up until now the subject has been compulsory, but this year it was optional. Of cource I chose to build further on the intriguing sucbject. This blog is created for the class called International English and is supposed to document some of my work through the semester. Hopefully, I will have something interesting to post and for you to read!

As most of us know, English is one of the worlds most global languages. It is used not just as a natioanl language in English-speaking countries, but as a tool bridging the gap of communication cross cultures. As International English is described as a class studying the English-speaking countries, trying to understand the processes behind the enormous and continuous globalization of the language, my expectations for this semester are many and high. This is a wide theme with a lot of interesting directions that I would like to follow an study in dephts. I hope to learn a lot about how English effects different societies and how the language has developed within different cultures all over. At the same time I would probably catch up a few things about cultures in general all over the world (exciting!). English is a powerful language with enormous influence and importance. I am very much looking forward to study it further and to also improve my English skills, both in writing and orally. I think this will be a good one.
